Just curious,

Windows forced updates make to laptops completely unbootable....if that's a word.

Old and new desktops are fine.

Anyone else have trouble?

My son had a laptop he got from Craigslist that had Win 7 and after one update it stopped working, got the dreaded blue screen. He took it to a shop and they said that the update detected a bootlegged version and killed it. Needless to say a genuine retail Win 10 version would have cost just as much as a new laptop!

An upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 killed my last laptop. It was old so it was time for a new one anyway.
Retired, no salvage value.
