What would you charge yourself for your own TY2013 tax return? Form 1040 only, not including entity return charges.

I voted $2,500 and up. I would value bill my own return and would make sure that the bill included a sizable mark up for frustration and aggravation.

My client is very argumentative and frustrating. He tends to give me information at the last possible moment and then expects miracles to occur. If the tax preparation results don't come out exactly like he expects he calls my competence into question. On one occasion he even called me an idiot.

So I voted for $2,500 and up. If you are going to have a PITA client you should be well compensated for it.

I always do it pro bono. The guy is likable enough; we go way back and he brings me wine and stuff. Plus I'm kind of sweet on his wife. But he's really a flake who wouldn't pay anyway, so it's just not worth the hassle. I put it on extension and slam it out when I have extra time.

Oops. Should have read the instructions. I included my entity return in my fee estimate. Need to deduct one 4-700 and add one 2-400! :)
