I was reviewing a tax return (UltaTax) and noticed that although the 3rd party Designee box on pg. 1 of the new 1040 is checked, the information does not fill-in on Schedule 6 where there is a space for the PIN number and other third party info.

Called support and they looked it up - they say that for paid preparers, only page 1 is supposed to be checked and Schedule 6 does not need to be filled in. Interesting.

I am concerned about not having a PIN and need to confirm that what they told me is accurate. I will try and research it when I have more time.

What they said is correct according to the instructions for schedule 6.

When you think about it, a PIN really shouldn't need to be printed in plaintext on the return, as it defeats the security aspect of it. Just because it is not shown on the paper form does not mean it is not available for validation purposes on an efiled return.
