I was wondering if anyone has heard of an IRS requirement to keep taxpayer info safe by requiring physical files to be behind two locked doors? Place I'm working for now seems to think this is a requirement, but I hadn't heard of it before and I can't find anything about it online other than Publication 1075 which seems to only apply to government agencies. Seems a bit archaic in the era of electronics if it is indeed a rule for tax prep firms.

I am not sure under what authority, but my liability insurance requires lock and key and we switched to it 6 years ago. I am old so file cabinets in the open area we installed side locks on them. We have computer storage for 15 years, but a few files for paper still exist. Put locks on all inner offices. It helps me check the boxes when making out my liability insurance policy..
