Client moved to CA, does dental assistant/hygenist work.
In NYC if she tempted for a day they would pay via Zelle or cash, whatever.
In CA every single temp job kicks out a W2.
Total of 14 W2s this year.

Last year I charged 300 or 350 with a minimal Sch C.
This year I'm thinking between $450-600 because of the dang W2s.
What a PITA.

Do you charge extra for more W2s?

It depends on the situation. I have many dependent children who will have odd jobs during the year so it is not unusual to see someone with 4 or 5 W2 returns. I never had one with 14 W2 but I do have a union carpenter that gets 8 to 10 W2 in a year and that too for all the neighboring states. Yes I charge extra for all that input.

Me too. It makes me hate American Funds retirement distributions slightly less.

Single, schedule C-"E.A.S.Y", 14 W2s:

$450

CA and NY states?

$540

No bookkeeping, client must fill out P&L worksheet and simple client card/organizer (not adding donation receipts, etc).

$150/hour to add receipts. (admin does it)

This is about $100 here more than normal because of the W2s. Shouldn't take long. (admin does it - but I wouldn't mind doing it if no admin)

I was debating between $600 and $525, ended up going with $525 because I feel bad for the client.
Being out of work due to the pandemic, moved to CA to start a business that absolutely dried up from COVID.
I had a little more than 2.25 hours in after the mailing and final assembly/phone call.
Client paid via Venmo before I even had it in the mail.
Then USPS gets me for $15 for priority mail to the West coast lol.

So it goes, I keep a client for another season.
Certainly not my best realization rate, but it could be worse.

Yes charge extra for W2a $75 per/pop. Gambling winnings are far worse W2G - has 12-fields to enter,
then the tax explanation to the disappointed taxpayer who won $10k lost $12k, but doesn't itemize his
deductions so he has gambling income, that's $500 extra.

I believe Sendle would charge $8 for a package up to 5lbs flat rate to that zipcode.

Why would you say "what a pita". Charge what you feel is fair for both you and your client, let client know fee ahead of time and happy taxing. No reason this cant be a pleasant tax return experience for all involved. Kind regards

Some clients are "super" sensitive to fee increase. I had a retired lady on fixed income complain that the $10 fee increase was an unpleasant surprise because her grocery bill, gas etc. have gone up. Then I said I agree we both live in the same zip code so has mine. I am not getting any discounts either. After pausing for a minute she figured out it was a no win situation, so she promptly handed me her credit card!

It is what is it, a PITA.

it's tough for a low income taxpayer, who is getting 100-200 on the majority of the 14 w2s.
They can't afford to pay me $75 for each additional form.

When you compare this return, to another return that I might make the same money in 30 minutes.
Yea, I still describe it as a PITA. Doesn't mean the client isn't happy with the tax return/invoice, and I'm still happy making money. So it is a win/win, but still a pain. Make sense?
