I am a participant in the AFSP, am a PTIN holder, and need my 18 hours (yes, I procrastinate every year). I have always taken CE courses as opposed to CPE courses. I am not an EA - would CPE count towards my 18 hour requirement? Thanks!

Yes, and no.
CPE only counts in the system if the hours are reported to the IRS.
There is an area on IRS website, where you can view your hours for the year to date.

I always focus on courses that list EA credits, so I am sure I get both CPA and EA credit for enough hours for the year.
I knew an EA who did CPE credits from NYS Society, and similar. When it came time for him to renew his EA, he always had to submit all of the hours certificates because those courses did not submit hour proof to the IRS.

So, it's not impossible to get around, but it would be much easier and less hassle to be sure to hit those CE courses.

CPAAcademy.org has a feature where you can search for EA approved courses.
I have also used my-cpe.com for free courses.
Good luck in your search.

You can also use Gleim's self study, for somewhat affordable, quick and easy hours.
