After seeing a reddit post about firm registration I thought, "Oh shoot, do I need to do that??".

So I called the NJ Board and the person who answered was not totally sure of herself.

She pulled up a statute which said if you're not offering audit/attest services or putting "CPA" in the firm name then there is no need to register with the board.

She then said I should read the statute myself to be sure.

The services I offer are: Tax/Tax Planning, Bookkeeping, and Payroll.

The statute is here: https://law.justia.com/codes/new-jersey ... n-45-2b-54

Can any of you help me out with this? I read it a couple of times and am thinking I don't have to register but I don't want to mess this up!

Thank you.

Better safe than sorry?

Do you not have CPA in your firm name? If your firm name is your own name, ie: First Last, CPA I would think that still qualifies.

I do not have "CPA" in my firm name. It's "XXX Tax and Accounting".

You might be right, better safe than sorry.
