PTIN Renewal. Cannot pay the renewal fee.

I am trying to renew my PTIN for 2023.

Everything went well and smoothly until I needed to make the $30.75 renewal fee. Everytime after I click the 'Pay Now' button, my browser says:

Your connection is not private
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from http://www.payconnexion.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more
NET::ERR_CERT_INVALID

http://www.payconnexion.com normally uses encryption to protect your information. When Chrome tried to connect to http://www.payconnexion.com this time, the website sent back unusual and incorrect credentials. This may happen when an attacker is trying to pretend to be http://www.payconnexion.com, or a Wi-Fi sign-in screen has interrupted the connection. Your information is still secure because Chrome stopped the connection before any data was exchanged.

You cannot visit http://www.payconnexion.com right now because the website sent scrambled credentials that Chrome cannot process. Network errors and attacks are usually temporary, so this page will probably work later.

Does anyone have the same problem?

All I still need to do is just to pay them the fee in order to complete the renewal. Any help will be appreciated.

I would just try again later, from a different computer/browser if necessary.

No problem renewing and paying using Chrome a couple of days ago.

Is payconnexion.com legit?

I am worried somehow the payment is directed to another website.

Renew directly from your PTIN account, not a 3rd party app.

Yes, I renewed directly on the IRS PTIN website. I don't believe the renewal can be done anywhere else, is it right?

But then when I needed to make the payment, that error message popped up and it looked like I was being directed to payconnexion.com.

Based on the message you received, it appears the certificate for the third-party payment processor expired and therefore an encrypted connection could not be established (https).

I wouldn't worry that it's a scam. Just a temporary problem that will likely be remedied quickly. Try again in a few days from a different browser.
