As a young, small firm we're looking for a resource to help with some of the more obscure\complex requests we receive (e.g. international; SALT; etc). Curious if anyone is a part of an alliance or group that provides access to tax experts to either consult with or farm out the work too?

Great question
I have a network of folks with experience in these fields. I do some consulting on partnership and s-corp issues with folks.

Maybe others could share here the areas in which they have deep knowledge on which they would be willing to consult and allow that network to develop.

I likewise need a good referral source for:

Expat (especially 5471, late 8938, etc)
Non-US persons
Multi-state sales businesses
Tax resolution (OIC, managing late returns, no payroll for s corp, large tax balances)

Expat - too much penalty liability
5471 - can't charge enough
late 8938 - client is so screwed
non-US persons - never easy
tax resolution - hard to get paid, worst work, worst clients

It's no wonder no one wants to do these.

My practice specializes in assisting small CPA firms with international tax clients. I am on the Washington State CPA Society international tax committee so I have resources in this area.
