It depends on your client base. Both are good for the price and they have their strengths and weaknesses. I find TaxAct better for the W-2 or investment income clients. I prefer Drake for the business returns, including Schedules C & E. As most of my clients either have a business or rentals, I went with Drake some years ago and, largely, do not regret it. There are times, though, that I miss TaxAct.

I used Tax Act for several years when I was starting out. It isn't a bad package, however, it does have limitations with complex returns. I remember contacting their support several times in one year and the response was basically the software couldn't handle those situations. I had 3 of those in a row and switched to another software company.

Tax Act is a forms based program, and that can be handy vs. having to learn the input screens.

I am not a Drake user...but I suspect it is a more comprehensive program.
