IRS link with all current files, should be over 2,000 listed as of tax year 2017.

https://apps.irs.gov/app/picklist/list/ ... tions.html

change view to 200 at a time, so that's over ten web pages you have to wade through, repeating the process ten or more times

Find a suitable downloader add-on for Firefox Quantum:

Download Star https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... load-star/

Filter the download for only "Document" files (PDF links), and click download to grab all 200 files on the page in a batch. Repeat for each page until all files downloaded.

Another tip - download individual pubs, forms, and instructions only as needed to ensure you have the most current revision.

In general that is good advice. However from a practical standpoint, after about March or April it's going to be extremely rare that the IRS changes forms instructions or pubs for the most recent tax year. Can you think of any examples where it made a difference, to have a version of a form instruction or pub that was revised later than March or April, after the bulk of the filing season was already over?

And if there is a significant change, I'm sure to hear about it in this forum, or from my software vendor, or by virtue of being subscribed to IRS new releases.

After all, I'm not using these downloaded forms to file any returns, I'm merely using the instructions and pubs for reference. My software vendor is responsible for providing the very latest version of any forms.

In any case, the convenience of having them all at my fingertips, without using a browser and without being connected to the internet, far outweighs for me the tiny risk of not having the very latest version.

I agree, plus I can append my notes, highlight certain areas, etc.
