Hi,

Currently I have been using Lacerte's tax planner - which is free with the software - for making projections based on different scenarios etc.

It is okay because it automatically pulls the info from the tax return. However, the reports that it produces are fairly awful looking.

Today, I tried out Lacerte's Tax advisor (They give you 3 free credits). It is much more slick, and the reports are cool looking. But, it seems fairly limited with projections...basically, it just throws a bunch of tax savings ideas at you, a lot of them are fairly stupid.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a tax advisory software? It would need to be able to pull the data from a finished tax return (Lacerte).

Thanks for any advice!!!

For projections for multiple years and/or scenarios, I use BNA Income Tax Planner with 50 states. You can export data from Lacerte. Lacerte charges a fee for the "bridge".

It does not give recommendations, if that's what you mean by advisory.

I will check it out.

I have been fairly unimpressed with some of intuit's offerings. Both intuit hosting and tax advisor were advertised as these really great products, but when I have tried them out they have a lot of shortcomings.

Tax advisor from what I saw is a joke. I think a CPA would rather have an easy-to-use software that does projections, than what tax advisor does i.e. throw a ton of mostly unrealistic tax planning ideas at you.
