I'm seeing a lot of retired folks owing tax due to the spike in interest income. I'm also seeing some 25C credits for installing electric heat pumps... but I have yet to find an easy way to determine which heat pumps qualify.

Any tips or tricks for quick determination on heat pump 25C eligibility in 2023?

I'd try here: https://www.energystar.gov/about/federa ... heat-pumps where you can see the eligibility for the credit, and then there is a search page under "Find Eligible Products"

I've had a few clients bring up that they purchased windows and wanting to take the credit because whoever they bought from/installed hyped up the tax credits. I've been finding most of the invoices don't show the info needed to determine eligibility such as U-values or SHGC. Also been finding that most windows don't qualify once they spent the time to find this info or the CPD of the windows.
You can’t always trust what you read on the internet; therefore, all opinions are my own and don’t constitute tax advice.

Like Wisco, I’ve found many of the windows and split system heat pumps don’t qualify. I think our office has had two heat pumps, a gas water heater, and a door qualify. While he was in my office, one guy received a text from the salesman saying they just found out their windows did not qualify under the new standards. This was April 12.
