SBA INQUIRY THROUGH EMAIL

Client applied for and received EIDL funds from the SBA through the COVID relief program. Franchise business which he sold in 2021. Loan was paid off prior to sale. SBA reached out via email Friday requesting documents - subject heading "COVID EIDL Compliance Documents Request - XXX Co. EIDL loan #XXXX. Looks legit but I'm always wary. Anyone else have clients receiving such a request?

The lists of borrowers are subject to public records requests. I think you're right to be Leary.
What are they going to do if he doesn't respond? Pull his loan?
It's paid off. I'd advise him to ignore it.
