I just noticed this option on a user profile. While adding someone as a friend seems cool, do we really need a "foe" option? What does it do? Block the user?

Gosh I have no idea. Probably blocks them from sending you PMs. If you want to try "foeing" me we can test it :-) Just promise to un-foe me later!

So I tried it with you and I got this message:

"Manage foes

Foes are users which will be ignored by default. Posts by these users will not be fully visible. Personal messages from foes are still permitted. Please note that you cannot ignore moderators or administrators."

It would not let me add you as a foe.

Well, at least it gave some information as to what it does.

You could change "foe" to "killfile list", in homage to the old Usenet convention for suppressing posts from other contributors you did not wish to see. Of course "killfile" sounds just as hostile if not more so than "foe". Howabout "blocked contributors"?

How about "ignore list"? Not that there's anyone here I'd ever want to ignore.

What is the actual benefit of listing one as a friend?

Foe has been detailed, but what does friend do?

As a test of the system, I've friended you, Fred.

"Manage friends

Friends enable you quick access to members you communicate with frequently. If the template has relevant support any posts made by a friend may be highlighted."

I'll report back if your posts are highlighted.
