These tags could be fun on the off-topic board, but also useful in condensing larger, technical posts.

like a URL link - the text is available but not really there...
A URL provides an automatic citation to the source. Would users doing a long copy/paste take the time to cite?

I'll look at it; most likely would require custom programming. The larger issue is that there are a lot of cool things we could have here -- but would require moving to a totally different platform.

Would this be similar to a "Show More... / Show Less" pair of links? Some sites limit the initial view of a post to X number of lines unless you click on "Show More", when the rest of the post is revealed.

I prefer that the title have some good keywords in it, to hiding the "excess" lines of the post.
