Snapshot below. I find it interesting that of the total users online, 80% are anonymous, and of the 20% who aren't, nearly 40% of them are web crawler robots of some kind or other.

It would be nice if we could get more registered users/contributors.

In total there are 66 users online :: 11 registered, 0 hidden and 55 guests (based on users active over the past 30 minutes)
Most users ever online was 185 on 13-Feb-2015 2:49pm

Registered users: Bing [Bot], BVN in PDX, Coddington, COGS, Google [Bot], Google Feedfetcher, Lalva, Nilodop, RuthC, TaxMonkey, Yahoo [Bot]

Those stats are typical. Many people will find sites like this, never create an account and simply read the latest discussions.

Gaining new users is an interesting proposition. I've thought about it before and came up with a few ideas:

- use my constant contact account to send an unsolicited email out to a subset of the PTIN directory email list.
- start visiting other related sites and mentioning this site.
- leverage social media to try to get the word out.
- spend money on google adWords, to advertise this site, contextually.

The first two could be viewed as 'spammy', and could backfire. The third takes a lot of time and energy. The last takes a lot of cash to be effective.

Traditional logic says for a site to gain membership and momentum is to keep adding high quality, relevant content. The topics you guys create and discuss go a long way against that goal. There's probably something I could be doing to solicit articles or news items that the audience here would find valuable, but there are also so many other sites doing that already...not sure if it would be worth the ROI...

As always, I don't even pretend to have all the answers on a topic like this.

Against? As in contrary to that goal?

Also, in rugby, you score a try if you are grounded against the goal. I guess against is a good thing.

Although, I would have preferred the word towards.
