Ha anyone filed a 3115 for a simple error of deducting a piece of equipment instead of depreciating it? I am looking for an automatic DCN # to help my client. I called the Washington office to discuss with a nice agent who indicated he couldn't find an automatic number so the fee was $10,700 to correct a $2000 error, which prob would results in $300 tax effect to my client. My Checkpoint Depreciation guide warns that this type of correction is not an automatic change (no user fee applied) so I just thought I would double check. If I cant adjust backward, can I at least take depreciation going forward in the last few years or is that not allowable as well?
