Hello all. I am trying to e-file Form 1040-NR, together with a New York nonresident return (IT-203) on prosystem f/x. This is for a married nonresident alien, whose spouse is also a nonresident alien. The filer has an ITIN but the spouse does not. Prosystem is generating a diagnostic indicating the taxpayer is disqualified from e-filing because the spouse has no ITIN. But this is reported nowhere. The spouse's info is not reported on Form 1040-NR, nor is it reported on Form IT-203.

I tried entering a place holder, using all 1's, all 9's, and all 0's, for the spouse's ITIN, with no luck. Still the same diagnostic.

Does anyone have a workaround for this?

Back when I used Prosystem fx / CCH Axcess, putting a help ticket in was the most efficient and effective way of getting help. Usually had a response within 24 hours.

Do you have to enter anything at all for the spouse- at least for the 1040NR?

Then deleting the spouse info should allow you efile the 1040NR. Not sure about NY.
