I still cannot find any concrete evidence NYS is following the IRS extensions of time to 7/15 for filing returns/estimates/and IRA contributions. Anyone have any info on NYS yet????

thanks

I find it very disconcerting that the Governor announced days ago NYS will follow the Federal then issue nothing authoritative in black and white for taxpayers or preparers to rely on.

This article is from the Albany Times Union. But agreed, I would feel much better about the extension if there was something on the NYS website.

This is from the NYS Assembly website.

•The deadline for filing your state and federal taxes has been moved from April 15 to July 15.

But nothing yet has been published on the website of the NYS Dept. of Taxation and Finance.

In his defense, the governor is very busy with pandemic control. I agree, though, there should be an official announcement.

Cuomo doesn't have to be involved. He should have the Commissioner of Taxation & Finance issue a Notice.

I have not seen anything posted on the NYS Dept of taxation web site.
Is the 1st estimated tax for NYS also moved to a due date of 7/15 ?

According to the Governor's statement "Further guidelines will be released soon." I guess we'll have to wait for the official version.

My guess is that he won't extend the first quarterly estimate due on 04/15. (1) NY was already in dire straights financially and they need the money, and (2) In his statement about the filing deadline, he stated that "because NY state requires electronic filing, the date for filing state personal income taxes automatically travels with federal filing date" Estimated taxes are different in that they don't have to be filed electronically. Taxpayers can mail those in.

Until I see otherwise. I am sticking with the 04/15 1st estimated payment date.

I emailed NYS Dept of taxation. An agent at NYS called my office in response to the E mail and said that the 1st NYS estimated payment is do April 15th and not July 15th. He say that the individual returns will be following the Federal and the due date has been extended to July 15th.

Cuomo just (again) announced that the due date for tax returns has been moved until July 15, nothing about the Q1 estimated tax payment.

See my post. I emailed NYS and they responded concerning the Q1 estimated tax payment. They will follow up the phone call with an email.

I received the email from NYS concerning Notice -20-2 this afternoon at 2.32pm. However a NYS agent responded to my email Friday afternoon and he told me that the 1st estimated date was not extended but due April 15th. I guess we all should question what an agent tells us.

They still have not done so. The Governor has said they will almost certainly extend and there is a bill that was introduced to do this but nothing is finalized. So as of right now it's still April 15th. I imagine any day it will happen but nothing is certain.

As of now, NJ has not made a decision yet. You can check this "State Tax Filing Relief" chart on AICPA website.(FREE)
