How do I know if the discount on the purchase of stock in an ESPP is included in W-2 income? There's nothing in box 12 of the W-2. Client works for a large company.

Or anything else on the W-2 that indicates this.

Request the year-end paystub.

Okay, not the paystub when the shares were purchased and sold? Are there any companies that don't include these amounts in the W-2?

Get the year-end pay stub in the year the shares were sold.

Yes. It's rare, but it has happened. In those cases, WWJD.

I'd ask for the paystub for when the shares were purchased and sold, too. Sometimes it has more detail than what is on the year end stub.

Large comapny ESPP plans involve payroll deductions each month. Seems like it might could be for the entire calendar year.

Are you sure this is an ESPP plan? Did this company report the transaction correctly in 2018? New client? Last years tax return?

Yes, I have a 3922 form and info on the sale. The shares are purchased twice a year at a 15% discount to FMV when they vest and TP sells them the same day.
