In the past, in lieu of sending in an extension AND an estimate on 4/15,sometimes
i' ve just had the client send in the sum of the amount that was on the estimate and the extension
thru the 4868.

Anyone see a problem with doing that for this 7/15 deadline?

For the IRS and many states yes, but not for all states. Illinois required 2020 Q1 and Q2 ES payments to be filed on 4/15 and 6/15.

That's our backward state for you. Taxpayers who procrastinated with filing their returns got a big surprise.
