I have a client who got married in 2019. His business created an NOL in 2019 that I am going to carryback to 2014-2017. He is single in 2014-2017. I am trying to figure out the adjustments, if any, that I need to make regarding the carryover amount in 2019. Do I recalculate the 2019 NOL and only look at his income? Or do I use the 2019 NOL as it was calculated wth them filing MFJ, or do I adjust the NOL worksheet to reflect a deduction addback ( which is standard, not itemized ) for just a single, not joint standard deduction? I haven't prepared a 1045 in a really long time, so it doesn't help that this one has to be complicated!
