client has a rental property which was converted to his home during 2020. He also has another house which he used as home for part of the year and then rented out after he moved to the first house mentioned above.
he used part of both houses as home office. How to calculate the depreciation expense for the home offices.
1. for the house he lived for the first part of 2020, use the cost basis of the building as of 12/31/2019 to calculate depreciation.
2. for the house he lived for the second part of 2020, the one converted from rental to primary residence, use the ending cost
basis of the building as of the date the rental ended to calculate depreciation.
3. for each calculation, also factor in the percentage based on days used as home office/365.
Does this sound right?

TWO
Can you take depreciation on a home office if the office was both put into service and taken out of service during the tax year?
For the other one, isn't there a thread here or there that touches on what happens regarding depreciation when you have a change in use?
