What does 30 mean in "tax refund 30"? I believe it is the refund type, but where is it documented? Have you seen another type other than 30? Thanks.

30 is the Master File Tax (MFT) code, and it refers to the 1040 series of returns. See the IMF chart at IRM 3.12.21-4.

dave829: thanks so much for the info! The chart says "30/31" so the code 31 can be used, and when?

MFT 31 is used to create a mirror joint account, such as when one spouse claims innocent spouse. See IRM 25.15.15.1.1.
