Looks like RMD's will be required in most cases on inherited IRA accounts but that no penalties if RMD's not taken in 2021 and 2022. Could be worse.

I was hoping they would be lenient for 2021 and 2022.

In my mind, how could they not be lenient?

It's a proposed reg.

It's not law yet.

I've read this over and am still confused on how the RMD is to be calculated for 2022.

In my client's case, her 90-year-old father died in 2021 prior to taking his 2021 RMD. My client took the 2021 RMD using her father's life expectancy. For 2022, it looks like she still has to take an RMD. Is the 2022 RMD still based on her father's life expectancy?

Do we have any idea when we can expect final regulations on this? Or are we operating on the assumption that final regs will be released in 2023?
