The IRS is using a "Care of" on a client address that is a former-former partner of a business. My client is tired of seeing that on correspondence and has asked me to help. Where do I go with the IRS to do this? Is the EIN department?

Would submission of the proper Change of Address form do it? (Form 8822 or 8822B)

I tried for years for a client and never got anywhere. Tried change of address form, marking change of address on return, crossing it off on correspondence and mailing it back to them with a note, POA. Nothing worked. Finally gave up

8822B with a change to "responsible person" is supposed to do it. I don't know if it actually works.

I didn't think this was the right direction to go, but this worked.
Thanks, all!

I would have called them and just told them the guy is gone and doesn't "care" anymore.
