QBO and trying to allocate income to other income

Client has a few rent checks which we don't want to lump in with the income of her business. I want the rental income to show up on the P&L under "other income" as rent at the bottom of the P&L. Client made an invoice for rent. Under product/service, I changed the income account to Rental Income (name of account) and "other income". Before it was a regular income account. I removed the category, thinking that this may cause the problem. The P&L did not change. The rental income still is lumped in with the sales income. The only issue I can come with is that maybe the change only starts from the date I made the change?
